Dr. Scarffe earned his PhD in Management (Healthcare Management) from the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa (Ontario, Canada). Andrew currently lives on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation in Ottawa, Ontario. Dr. Scarffe earned both his Masters of Science (MSc) and Bachelors of Health Sciences with a specialization in Health Science (BHSc) from the University of Western Ontario (Western University) and also earned a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA) from Thompson Rivers University (TRU). He is also currently completing his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from TRU. Dr. Scarffe’s research interests fall at the intersection of decision sciences and health systems management. He incorporates decision sciences and health economic evaluation to identify opportunities to ameliorate health systems around the world.
The pursuit of understanding and knowledge can be attributed to Dr. Scarffe’s personal upbringing. His Mother holds her PhD in Education (University of Toronto) and is an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Thompson Rivers University. His Father has his designation as a Professional Electrical Engineer (Queens University) and holds his MBA (Ivey Business School at Western University) and now helps small businesses with one of Canada’s major banks. His Brother, Eric, holds his PhD in Philosophy (Boston University) and is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Florida International University (FIU) and his other Brother, Colin, holds is Masters in Economics (University of British Columbia) and is an Economist for the Government of Canada. In short, academic pursuit has been long-held as a core family value and often results in a divergence of opinion. Needless to say, the barrier to entry for dinner time and zoom conversations is high and our discussions will cross interdisciplinary lines well before the meal begins.
